The Spine’s “Book of Today” – May 13th, 2021 – The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith

This is the first mystery/detective book I've read in quite a while. The story is very intriguing, and the Cormoran Strike/Robin duo really pulled me into it. Strike is such a likeable character - even with all his flaws. He has one leg, no wife, no home, no money and a lot of debt. The one thing that's not quite so flawed, however, is his investigative abilities.

Due to past connections, he succeeds in landing a high-profile case – the suspected murder of celebrity Lula Landry. Everyone believes she killed herself; it's what all the mainstream media and the police were saying. Even Cormoran Strike believes it, as he hesitantly offers to start the investigation. What unfolds next is a quest to find out what really happened the night of Lula Landry's sudden death. Cormoran Strike has questions, and someone out there knows the truth. A truth that the murderer will stop at nothing to keep silent.

Now would be the perfect time to get into this series. With the fifth book releasing last September, its an excellent opportunity to waste a week or two binge reading them – and this series is worth every second you put into it. As I read it, I tried to figure out who the guilty party was alongside Strike, and I was surprised when I was completely wrong (the mark of a good mystery book)!

It should be noted that this series was written by J.K. Rowling under the pen name of Robert Galbraith. If you want to find out more about the series, you can visit the website here: Robert Galbraith | The Cormoran Strike Series (robert-galbraith.com)
